Gîtes and table d'hôtes in the Cévennes
Farming and eco-tourism
We grow our own garden produce right before your eyes, following a thoughtful, peasant-farming approach with the most economical use possible of our precious resources. Our agritourism site has been recommended by the Parc National des Cévennes.
Meals are home-cooked using vegetables from the kitchen garden and our small fruit trees. For other foods we don't produce ourselves - such as bread and honey - we favour local farmers and artisans.
An unusual stay in authentic Cévenol houses steeped in History
The Frégère Basse farmhouse is a large farm built during the golden age of Vallée Française, when the population was ten times larger. Surrounded by its garden, meadows and chestnut tree terraces, it presides over its hillside at 450 m altitude.
200 m lower down, close to the Gardon de Saint-Martin, the Pont de Burgen gîte is much older. The stone house built on the rock at the side of the Merlet stream forms part of the hamlet gradually built up in the 13th century.
Beautiful walks along our Cévenol paths
Situated at the foot of the Montagne de la Vieille Morte, the paths leave from our doorstep through chestnut forests and pine groves to reach the ridges or descend towards the Gardons - beautiful rivers with crystal-clear water and smooth, flat pebbles.
You will pass by magnificent Cévenol buildings built entirely of stone and lauze slates.
The company of animals
This is truly what makes our place special. You are sure to find your donkey friend among our 22 long-eared companions. Some are over 30 years old. Many were born in the herd.
A few cats, hens and a cockerel are also part of the family.
